The eco-friendly notion was touted at the recent Thailand Hair Expo, hosted by Hair magazine.
It's the brainchild of Dr Singh Intrachooto, who designs "environmentally responsible" products and co-founded Osisu, which makes "green furniture".
The trick to making a hair salon more efficient and responsible is up on the roof, says Intrachooto's assistant, Jutha Sukawanice.
There are solar panels that generate the energy to run the air-conditioners and electric appliances, and a water tank that's heated by the sun.
"And, since most salons in Bangkok occupy row-house-type buildings, with no backyards," he says, "you can plant a garden on the roof that will absorb the heat and keep the interior cooler."
