Spirit of Giving Back Kicks off Christmas Season at Home Interior Warehouse

WALLED LAKE, Mich.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Furniture boutique retailer Home Interior Warehouse will host a glamorous Christmas décor sale from Nov. 8-17, 2007 at its Walled Lake location, just minutes from Twelve Oaks Mall. The sale which features hundreds of unique holiday decorating items at a 20-percent discount will benefit the YWCA Detroit – Interim House, one of the nation’s largest domestic violence shelters. A special preview event from 6-9 pm on Thursday, Nov. 8^th will kick off the sale. The preview and sale are free to attend and open to the public.

Donations and a raffle during the sale will help provide many new mattresses before Christmas for the 60-bed shelter. Home Interior Warehouse owner Jackie Schwartz, is co-chair of the 12-person community service team representing the Michigan chapter of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) who is coordinating a shelter-wide renovation.

“We are excited about the momentum this project has generated within our committee, at the shelter and in the community,” commented Schwartz. “There is a lot of work that needs to be done within the shelter. We are confident we can gather the resources to make a significant difference throughout the entire shelter and offer comfort and a fresh start for the many women and children who will stay there for sometimes several months at a time.”

Renovations to date include revamping eight resident rooms with new pastel paint, custom bedding, dressers and window treatments as well outfitting the community room with new couches, a game table, entertainment center and a fresh yellow wall color. Several fine artists have added decorative accent paintings as well as painting a forty-foot-mural in the hallway.

“Making the decision to leave home to go to an unfamiliar shelter takes a great deal of courage. Being welcomed into a comfortable, clean and safe place certainly makes it easier,” said Kathy Hagenian, Executive Policy Director for the Michigan Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence. “It is truly the meaning of community to see this resourceful team of interior designers coming forward to help women and children who are in a very difficult situation.”
