Spectrum Design spearheaded the postmodern classic contemporary interior design of this chic hotel. The transformation gives a nod to both the past and present with its clean and timeless interior design and furnishings, high-end materials, and neutral color palette. With its boutique-style elegance and modern comfort, The Ellis is the newest luxury, boutique hotel in Atlanta.

"The owner had a love for the Postmodern era and wanted that translated to the interior design of the space," explained Kelly Cook, Designer, Spectrum Design Services. "We chose high-end furnishings, lavish accents and warm colors to create a stunning union of classic, comfortable design and modern eminence."

The alluring lobby features a lustrous limestone floor with insets of rich bamboo. Classic pieces such as the Le Corbusier chairs are offset by a modern sofa upholstered in luxurious red mohair. Custom designed chandeliers and wall sconces add the unexpected to the space. The grand staircase commands attention from patrons in the lobby below. Sleek stainless steel handrails support custom cut glass panels which gives the appearance of a free-floating staircase. The stainless mesh chandelier was custom designed for this area and was imported from the Netherlands.

The dark bamboo floors continue up to the bar/lounge level and help create warmth in the space. The bar features a sleek black granite top with woven stainless steel treatment on the facade. Many of the bar's windows were left undressed to take full advantage of the city views, with the exception of the steel and glass back bar shelves which serve as a sculptural window treatment.

The historical footprint guided the property's interior layout which created a challenging and unique opportunity with the design of the guestrooms. There are 10 guestrooms per floor and each features an innovative blend of sleek modern design and tranquil ambiance. Ivory faux ostrich headboards accent a luxurious wood veneer wall showcasing the rooms. Custom casegoods, seating, and window treatments were designed around the uniquely styled rooms. There is also a Women's Only floor, featuring a secured entry and amenities including curling & straightening irons.

The exquisite guest baths feature the modern touches of a private retreat. White limestone floors and walls and specially cut granite countertops frame the rooms. Tiled shower surrounds, Kohler rain-shower heads, and frameless glass doors complete the spa-like bath area. Guestrooms also feature all the latest in technology, including LCD televisions, iPod compatible alarm clocks and high-speed internet connections.

About The Ellis Hotel

The Ellis has a storied past and today tells the story of a new day for downtown. The building was erected in 1913, named for builder William Fleming Winecoff, the original hotel owner prior to the fire. It was designed by William Lee Stoddart on Peachtree Street, which, at the time was the pinnacle of the city. The Winecoff dwarfed the other buildings around it, and therefore was touted as the tallest and most luxurious hotel in Atlanta. In 1946, it was the scene of the largest and deadliest hotel fire in history, which spurred Congress to enact fire safety legislation. RD Management LLC purchased the building for $2.2 million in 2000 and embarked on an extensive historic rehabilitation.
