While you may know them for their sleek knife sets or cutting boards made out of recycled plastic, Material Kitchen has officially set foot in the world of dinnerware. Launched earlier this week, the collection features plates in full and half sizes, as well as a shallow bowl and round bowl. The pieces were designed in partnership with Soilbaker, a Korean handmade ceramic brand that’s been outfitting the tabletops of restaurants around the globe since 2015.

Material's new Dine collection in the color Dune.

The bowls and plates come in two colors: a dark gray and goes-with-everything cream. The clay used was custom created by Soilbaker exclusively for Material. It’s mixed with five different types of natural soil, which is the only way to achieve the delicate gray hues while also making the dinnerware lightweight yet sturdy. Each design is hand-thrown on a potter’s wheel and fired using traditional techniques, drawing upon the age-old craftsmanship found in Yeoju, South Korea. The pieces are dishwasher and microwave safe.
