Designing with environmentally-friendly materials that create indoor-outdoor functionality -- then giving it all a distinctive Island flair -- is the specialty of Jamie Jackson, a true renaissance woman who serves as president and lead interior designer with Pacific Homes.

A former TV and movie actress, Jackson has performed notable design work for celebrities (such as the Kaua‘i north shore home of Ben Stiller and Christine Taylor). Her work also includes an award-winning New York City restaurant; a Caribbean resort hotel at St. Thomas; and numerous private homes from lofts in New York City’s Tribeca area to homes on O‘ahu, Maui, and Kaua‘i, plus modern high-rise condos in Honolulu.

“The elegant marriage of form and function interests me more than putting a preconceived stylistic stamp on a home design,” says Jackson. “Here in the Islands, that means creating seamless indoor-outdoor living, using products that by blend Hawaiian feeling with materials that resist weathering or moisture problems.”

Recent Jackson designs have employed such diverse materials as coconut flooring, roof tiles made of recycled tires, and other “green” components that offer aesthetic pleasure and conservation value in equal measure. “I’m interested in these products because we can all do something to make a difference,” Jackson says.

After taking her arts degree from Northwestern University, Jackson worked as an actress, owned a couture fashion company, and created conceptual art. She brought this wide-ranging experience to Hawai‘i over a decade ago, opening her own design shop, BooBam Design, prior to joining Pacific Home in the spring of 2006.

“Design is all about eye, taste and experience,” Jackson says. “I have lived and traveled all over the world – Italy, Paris, Australia, China and Indonesia. My travels and my work experience in all aspects of design have enriched my ability to design for any client or for any style needed.
